This aircraft has been in my family since 1966. It was modified for use in high altitude aerial photogrammetry, the modifications being a camera port in the floor and a mod to the engine. The engine mod (14:1 blower) places the aircraft into Restricted Category on the airworthiness certificate, but I believe replacing the engine with either a standard 10:1 or STC'ed 12:1 would allow a Normal Category certification. Most of the documentation (logbooks, etc) were destroyed in a fire in the mid-seventies. Total time is unknown. I do have the airworthiness certificate, and the aircraft registration is current. I have the FAA CD of their records.
N28A was last recovered in Grade A in the mid-sixties. The interior is simple Grade A for weight savings. There is no back seat. The baggage door has been removed (an oblique camera port is installed instead). Avionics are outdated and at this point not really worth discussing. N28A has been hangered and in dry country the majority of it's life. We operated out of Gunnison, Colorado, a high semi-desert environment. I purchased the airplane from my father in 1994 and it has been in a T hanger in the Phoenix area ever since.
This aircraft is perfect for the individual (or group) that wants really good "bones" from which to build up a beautiful Staggerwing.
